He Says She Sabotaged His Interview Because She Didn’t Do His Laundry

Full-time student, part-time job, and a boyfriend who doesn’t pull his weight. Was it sabotage on her part or just plain laziness on his?

The Laundry Situation

The original poster (OP) said that her boyfriend had a big interview recently that could jump-start his career, and he has been looking forward to it for the last month. OP goes on to say that she usually takes care of the cleaning and laundry in the apartment they share. The Wednesday before his interview, OP’s boyfriend told her he wanted to wear a specific blazer from his wardrobe and told OP it was in the hamper to be washed.

OP says she usually does laundry on the weekends because she is a full-time college student and works a part-time job during the week, so it’s a bit harder to make the time to go to the laundromat.

However, OP told her boyfriend that she would go to the laundromat Thursday night to get it cleaned for his Friday interview. She also said that her boyfriend hasn’t been working since he just graduated at the end of December, and his parents have been helping him pay the rent until he gets a job.

OP said Thursday rolled around, and her boyfriend was sitting on the couch playing video games when she got home from class. He immediately asked her when she was going to do his laundry since he was very nervous and wanted it to go perfectly. OP replied that she was tired from school because of an exam and had stayed up late studying the night before. However, OP said she was going to take a quick nap and that she would go to the laundromat afterward. After this exchange, OP’s boyfriend said he was going to grab a drink with a friend to calm his nerves.

Laundry Goes Unwashed

OP did not do his laundry because she was tired and partially upset that he sat around all day, played video games, and didn’t even ask her how her exam went. OP said her boyfriend was extremely angry with her for not doing his laundry and had to wear something else. He told her she screwed him up by not fulfilling what she agreed to do.

OP’s boyfriend said the interview went well, and she thought he would let the laundry issue go. But he is telling her that she tried to sabotage him, won’t speak with her, and is going to stay with his parents for a few days because of how upset he is.

Redditors Weigh In

Redditors responded quickly to this laundry situation and determined whether the OP was in the right or wrong.

One Redditor said, “There was nothing stopping him from washing it on his own. If it was that important, he should have done it. That being said, he asked you to do it and you said you would. But you didn’t do it.”

A second Redditor said, “If you know you need a blazer, wash it yourself, especially since he doesn’t seem to do anything else around the home. Girlfriend is not a laundry mommy. NTA.”

Another Redditor said, “Bf has plenty of time to play video games while op is in Uni. Op needs to tell baby boyfriend that he has a set of hands and legs and to grow tfu and learn to prioritize and do it himself since he has so much time on his hands to play video games.”

A user had this to say, “OP should just dump him. She’s a full-time student, works part time, does all the cleaning, and takes clothes to the laundromat. And he plays video games?”

This Redditor bluntly said, Excuse me, he’s jobless and relying on his parents and she cooks and cleans plus goes to uni while also working yet she’s partly to blame, in what world? If he had time to play video games and meet up with friends then he had time to get his blazer cleaned since he wasn’t that stressed. Time to get rid of the extra weight. NTA.”

A top-liked commenter had this to say, “Any grown adult who spends 3 weeks ‘preparing’ for anything. Only to be stopped by laundry not being done? Is the AH themselves? NTA but your gonna be one to yourself if this isn’t some sort of wake up call for you.”

Redditors let the OP know that she did the right thing and that her boyfriend could have easily done his laundry. What is your opinion? Did the girlfriend sabotage her boyfriend?
